It was a pleasant surprise running into a former colleague at one of the few remaining bookstores and sitting with a cup of coffee and talking books together without any hurry whatsoever. NO cell phones were allowed, although we didn't make that a requirement. We shoved our personal piles of books aside on the dark wooden table preparing space for our undivided attention. How we carried on like we had been long lost acquaintances lonely for a connection.
My European friends make it a point to have daily afternoon coffee or tea with a delicacy to relax before moving on to the next part of the day. They value their time with friends at the table much more than we Americans it seems.
