lectures will be on tap for mercury opera

Mercury Opera has not put on a production this year, but they are regrouping. In the meantime, they have scheduled some opera-related discussions for the winter and spring. All lectures will be from 7-9 p.m.
On March 11, Art Axelrod will speak on "Giuseppe Verdi: Composer, Showman and Moralist" at Penfield Public Library, 3100 Atlantic Ave., (585) 340-8720.

The other lectures are at Brighton Memorial Library, 2300 Elmwood Ave.; (585) 784-5300. Here are the dates:

Jan. 9 – "Bizet's Carmen" with Rosalba Pisaturo.

Jan. 16 – "Siegfried 101" with Peter Dundas.

Jan. 23 – "History of Opera from its Origin through the Golden Age" with Art Axelrod.

Jan. 30 – "Twentieth Century Opera (It's better than you think)" with Carol Crocca.

Feb. 6 – "History Presented in Opera, Seen through the Eyes of 19th Century Historians" with Agneta Borgstedt.

Feb. 13 – "Prayer in Opera" with Chuck Lundeen.
