freedom writers foundation speaker in corning

For all you aspiring writers, educators and those who enjoy hearing successful people speak, come to Corning Community College gymnasium, Friday, October 21at 7 p.m. to hear educator Erin Gruwell, founder of the Freedom Writers Foundation.
Her topic, "Becoming a Catalyst for Change," will focus on overcoming hardships and creating positive change from within, according to a news release.

You will remember that in January 2007, Paramount Pictures released "Freedom Writers," a film starring two-time Oscar winner Hilary Swank as Gruwell. The movie was based on "The Freedom Writers Diary," the bestseller that chronicled Gruwell's work with 150 high school students who had been written off by the education system.
