The Rockwell Museum of Western Art in Corning will present a free program called “El Dia de los Muertos: the Mexican Celebration of Life” at 5:30 p.m. Friday, October 14.
El Dia de los Muertos, celebrated annually on Nov. 2, combines the Spanish Catholic feast of All Soul’s Day with pre-Conquest Indian rituals of death.
Friday’s program will feature “a stunning visual survey of the altars, food, objects, and cemetery observances connected with this unique Mexican holiday,” according to the Rockwell.
The presenter is Dr. Susan Aberth, a professor at Bard College who specializes in Latin American art.
