Cajun-influenced country music star Sammy Kershaw headlines the Crystal City Jazz and Harvest Festival, Corning, which kicks off Friday, September 23, and continues throughout the day Saturday.
Highlights include live music, wine and beer tasting, a farmers’ market, a carnival and roving street entertainment.
From 5-8 p.m. Friday, there will be tastings of Finger Lakes wines and craft beers at shops and restaurants along Market Street and Bridge Street.
At many of the stops, there will be jazz and blues musicians playing, and there will be two featured acts on the Centerway Square Stage: Rick Wahlers and The Boogieman (5:30-6:30 p.m.) and New Orleans jazzman Peter Novelli (7-9 p.m.).
Many of the businesses hosting tastings will be offering special promotions. Complimentary limousine shuttles will be available for wine tasters, with pickups at Bottles & Corks and the Radisson Hotel.
Tickets for wine and beer tasting are $15, which includes a tasting glass, and will be sold at Centerway Square, Radisson Hotel Corning or The Site. Proper ID is required.
On Saturday, the festival continues with a farmer’s market and a carnival in Riverfront Park from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. There will be roving street entertainment, and three concerts in Centerway Square, including the Elmer Darlin’ Duo (noon-1 p.m.), Reunion (2-4 p.m.) and Sammy Kershaw (5 p.m.).
All shows, including Kershaw’s, are free. Folks are encouraged to bring lawnchairs.
