major woodcuts acquired by memorial art gallery

Fans of the important American artist Kiki Smith will have a chance to see two powerful woodcut prints just acquired by the Memorial Art Gallery.
The museum at 500 University Ave. will exhibit these poignant, economical images starting June 29.
The pieces are from Smith's 2007 series Mortal and show the last stages of her mother’s life. The Gallery Council, a volunteer support organization, purchased all 12 Mortal woodcuts for the museum.
