It's hard to believe that it has been that long ago when we woke up to the crackling of tree limbs and the crashing of branches. Our power was out only several days, and thanks to a wood stove and using a family member's home for showering, we got off quite easily. Of course, there was plenty of power tools in play later on in the week, and I must have hauled branches by the dozens to the pile, and cleaned up the lawn of randomly strewn twigs.
School was out for a week, and when we did return the first thing that my fifth graders wanted to do was write their own stories about their adventures. Actually, we had missed each other, and it was good to know that we were all fine. We self-published the book for the whole school to read, and it was a great compilation of our thoughts from different perspectives.
