In the mood for bbq cooking class

If you are looking for something unusual to do that is a bit of a challenge, too, try your hand at a cooking class at the New York State Wine and Culinary Center in Canandaigua. There are several choices to select from this summer all taught by experienced chefs. No matter what your level of expertise,  these courses are designed to improve your skills.

We did just that Sunday night at a NY BBQ class, and it was a real workout of our cooking skills. Paired with my husband, who I will admit is the better cook, we were put to work by Chef Jeff Christiano after an introductory lecture.

Yum! Enjoying the meal! What a delicious feast!
There  was no sitting around idle for a minute because each pair at our station had two dishes to complete in an hour. With some one- on- one guidance and tips by the chef and his assistants, we prepared the BBQ Beef Ribs with Homemade BBQ Sauce and the Traditional Chicken BBQ. At the end of the cooking time we plated our food and the other 3 couples in our section shared all our dishes together along with a glass of NY wine. Everything was delicious if we said so ourselves, and we even had plenty of leftovers to take home along with the recipes and other information to get us in the summer bbq mood.

All ages and combinations of people were cooking last night, and there was a wonderful co-operative spirit of helping between us. Our grill work was finished just in time for the pair next to us to use to complete their entry. Several times either my husband or myself went over to the next station where a team was cooking the same entries as us to get some advice, and they were very helpful. We noticed that a father and young son were cooking side by side,  so a new generation is being  better educated on nutritious meals. One fellow told me that he had come from Rochester to take eight courses, and he was very intent on gaining new experiences from each evening.

We're thinking that it might be a good idea to return with our gourmet group to make up a station together. Our group has been together for twenty years, and it would be another unique experience for we "foodies".

How about you?
