Owen's Big Night--Regional Writers' Awards
It was a grand night for celebrating!
Writers came together Friday night, March 5th at Mansfield University, PA, for the Fourth Annual Voices of the Twin Tiers Writing Contest for recognition and honors.
After several months of waiting, the fruits of hard work paid off for dedicated writers.
Owen from Painted Post, NY, came with his mom, and what greater validation for a writer than walking up to receive his personal copy of his work- in print. All that for a first grader who even illustrated his story, "Cheeto", the tale of a tubby Cheetah who went on a fitness kick.
The Creative Writing Department of the University did it up big with a lovely dessert reception and introduction of award winners. A handsome bound book of the award winning stories was given to each writer, and for some like Owen, it was the first time seeing his work in print. What a great joy to watch as he flipped the pages to find "his" piece there for everyone to read.
--and incidently, I was fortunate to have received an award for an essay,"Table Talk", in the adult division of the contest, and I walked away just as proud as Owen. We'll both keep on in our creative paths in one form or another.
